RODNEY'S STORY

Vintage Mic

Known as Wacky Uncle Rodney to his 4 nephews, niece, goddaughters, and a Rottweiler, Rodney Higgins finally got tired of friends, family and even people he just met telling him he should be voice acting, and decided to get on it already.

Acting had always been an interest growing up in central Arkansas, but didn’t seem “practical” when college time came around. So Rodney decided to go to art school at The Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. After earning degrees in Photography and Video Production, he found himself in Atlanta working in broadcast design at the firm Television By Design, editing graphics for television stations. This included assembling promos featuring various voice talent. He came across legendary voice actor Harlan Hogan’s demo CD, and Rodney’s road to voice acting had begun.

He then discovered Whole World Theater in midtown Atlanta and became immersed in improv comedy acting.  He studied under Whole World’s Loren Tarquinio and Lance Krall for nearly 2 years. Around the same time, Rodney also was cast in a pilot and 2 additional episodes of a proposed animated TV series named Negative Space.

To get seriously into voice acting, Rodney realized he needed some formal training, and turned to the renowned Nancy Wolfson at Braintracks Audio. He blazed through the Braintracks Audio curriculum in several months, and had Nancy produce his voiceover demo.

Rodney has spent his life in the South, and it can be heard in his natural vocal brand as a friendly, happy-go-lucky, warm, reassuring gosh-o-shucks Southern guy, not “hillbilly” or redneck-ish.

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES

As the years progressed, Rodney confidently advanced his skills in acting and voiceover by enrolling in specialized courses with industry luminaries like Pat Fraley, where he tackled workshops such as "Everything THEY Expect You To Know [But Nobody Teaches]," “The Billion Dollar Read audiobook narration, and “Character Voice Archetypes.” He delved deeply into the Meisner Technique, with three acting classes under the expert guidance of Grant McGowen at Atlanta's Pinch 'N Ouch Theater. Recently, Rodney sharpened his sketch comedy skills through a Sketch Comedy Acting 101 course at Sketchworks in Atlanta, further establishing his versatility in the performing arts.

"I just want to get into the action. And voice-over work is all action."
